The Ruakura inland port is poised to grow as a further 48 hectares gain resource consent.
The final consent for a logistics and industrial zone stretching from the port at Ruakura Road south to Silverdale has been issued.
Now just flat paddocks, the area will be transformed into a patchwork of warehouses by the beginning of 2020.
The industrial zone is expected to house light manufacturing, such as food and beverage processing, along with forestry, horticulture and retail businesses.
The completed port will have the capacity to unload 800m-long trains, taking 80 to 100 trucks off the road at a time.
Morris estimates the port, at full capacity, should take 65,000 trucks off the road
