Hamilton City Council seeks $240 million government loan for thousands of new homes15 Feb 2017

Thousands of new homes are on the cards with a bid to borrow government money being tabled by council.

The $240 million loan would fast-track Hamilton's development to the south of the city, but there's considerable competition for the government's $1 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund.

City councillors will meet on Tuesday to discuss the bid, which could open up 3000 houses in Rotokauri and Peacocke.

The loan will contribute to a wider plan to build a total 9500 houses in the two areas in the next 10 years.
